Granted exclusive access to the world's number one panda research centre and reserve at Chengdu, this film follows the life of a mother and cubs from conception through birth and hand-rearing, to play and young adulthood - and the international team that care for them - over the course of 18 months. With archive footage, the film looks back at the extraordinary East-West collaboration that brought giant pandas back from the brink of extinction, and ahead to the radical, controversial and risky next phase: reintroduction into the wild. Hey there! Today's video is a bit unusual. You're gonna hear Charlie's story. Oh, at first Charlie's life was just amazing! He had everything he needed - tasty food, a warm house, love. But one day everything changed. One day... No, let him tell you himself. By the way, Charlie's a dog. It was getting even darker and colder, and I was really hungry. - Some of the humans just gave me a weird look and walked around me, others tried to pet me – I felt so scared and overwhelmed by the whole thing that I ran and hid in the first alley I could find! - To be honest, that was the most awful feeling in the world, and these two knew exactly how I felt. How could people we loved so much betray us like that? - Me, Rocky, and Oscar became best friends. Every morning every single one of us went in different directions to find something good like food or something to keep us warm at night. - One of our favorite spots to check for food was outside this little diner. Jenny and Michael sometimes went to places like that. One day a human lady noticed me waiting in the corner as she was throwing out some food. - I kept going back to that diner, and I found out that this lady was named Alison and she was a cook there. - One day, she looked at me and asked “Listen, buddy. Would you like to come live with me? You look like you really need a home.” - Alison and I live in the same neighborhood as the alley I spent my nights in, so I sometimes see my old buddies, Rocky and Oscar. Unfortunately, they’re still out on the streets because they haven't met their Alison yet. 23 Albino Animals That Have Rarely Ever Been Seen

10:18
One in every 20,000 people is born with albinism. It's a condition when the body doesn’t produce enough melanin, giving the skin, hair, and eyes a pretty much complete lack of color. While it’s pretty rare in humans, it’s even harder to find in the animal kingdom. But they do exist. So if you’ve never seen an albino dolphin, squirrel, or crow – you’re in for a treat! Other videos you might like: 10 Unique Animals You Won’t Believe Exist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8mxT7lnCuo& A Unique Creature on Earth That Can Never Be Killed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8893cgbUfg& 10 Exotic Animals You Can Keep as Pets at Home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqK4qRK0nRA& TIMESTAMPS: Horse 0:28 Deer 0:57 Turtle 1:31 Alligator 2:04 Owl 2:45 Squirrel 3:05 Ladybug 3:25 Giraffe 3:47 Cockroach 4:09 Gourami 4:31 Sea urchin 4:55 Crow 5:22 Hedgehog 5:50 Moose 6:09 Peacock 6:32 Tiger 7:00 Finch 7:23 Dolphin 7:37 Kangaroo 8:10 Zebra 8:35 Gorilla 8:54 Orangutan 9:17 Doberman 9:45 #albinoanimals #uniqueanimals Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Albino horses are born completely white and stay that way their whole life. The really cool thing about them is that they don’t have reddish eyes, unlike most mammals such as mice and rabbits. - Being an albino can be both a curse and a blessing for a deer. You see, when you lose your camouflage, it’s much harder to hide from predators in the woods when you can be seen from miles away. - Albino alligators are incredibly rare as there’s only around 20 of them in the world. Similar to deer, their yellowish white skin makes them an easy target for predators, so they don’t live too long. - Only one squirrel in 100,000 is born white, so spotting one is a rare stroke of luck. They’re an easy catch for hawks given that they’re highlighted white against the grass and leaves. - Not exactly all people are fans of cockroaches. Maybe you’d be kinder to an albino cockroach. They become this way when they reach molt and lose pigmentation due to a chemical reaction. - Not only animals, birds, and insects can be albino – fish can too! Meet the Albino Gourami. They also lack melanin pigments and look white as snow as a result. - Albino crows and ravens are among the rarest birds on the planet and are even considered more mythological than real. - The latest spotting of a white moose that became an online star was in the Värmland region of Sweden. It turns out, there are people who spent years photo-hunting these creatures, and for one of them, their dream came true after 3 years of unsuccessful attempts. - Albino tigers shouldn’t be confused with regular white tigers that are common in India. Those have white fur and brighter black stripes, but albino tigers look lighter with pinkish eyes. - We’re used to seeing them in bright colors, but albino finch also occur in the wild, so don’t be surprised if you spot one! - There are more kangaroos than people in Australia, so it’s hard to surprise a tourist with one, but albino kangaroos aren’t nearly as widespread. - An albino gorilla called Snowflake became the most photographed animal in the world. It attracted millions of visitors to the Barcelona Zoo and lived for 39 years. - Albino Dobermans have exclusively white coats, blue eyes, and pink noses. Lack of melanin makes them more vulnerable to the sun, and their skin and eyes are super sensitive. Mother cow clearly asks man to rescue her newborn calf

03:40
This video tells the story of "Flo", a wonderful cow with a beautiful disposition, as she encountered serious difficulty soon after giving birth to her baby. On a very hot, spring day in Millbrook, Ontario, Flo was near the pond in the meadow that she called home. She and the rest of the herd live on a gorgeous farm where the cows wander freely and graze as they wish. It's life as close as possible to what nature intended for these sweet creatures. For whatever reason, Flo found herself beside the pond and up against the electric fence when it was time for her baby to be born. This fence is there to keep the cows from wandering on the highway and to keep predators out. The voltage is actually dialed down to a low setting. But her calf must have been slippery enough that it slid down the small slope and under the wires. It would have been difficult, if not impossible for the calf to get back under the fence, and Flo could not get to her newborn. The sun was beating down and the baby was supposed to be nursing, getting that first crucial dose of antibodies in his mother's collostrum. (First milk) Dave, a passing motorist who lived nearby had stopped with his GoPro camera because he wanted to film the other cows splashing and bathing in the pond. Their behaviour seemed interesting enough that he wanted to get some video. He stood by the fence with one camera in his hand and another on the fence post. He saw Flo acting annoyed to his left but he thought maybe she was just trying to express displeasure that he was near the fence. Dave knew very little about cattle and he had no idea that her unusual display was actually a request for help. Still not catching on, Dave began to film Flo as she pawed at the ground and paced back and forth. She looked at him and mooed as she did so. Even the other cows knew something was wrong and they came over to look. Flo was looking at the same spot outside the fence, and at Dave alternately. Dave decided he better investigate and he took his camera with him. He saw a small, newborn calf on the outside of the fence. It was lying still and appeared to be either dead or paralyzed with fear. When Dave got closer, he could see that it was OK but that it wasn't able to help itself. Dave knew the wires between him and the mother were not solid enough to hold her back if she objected to him going near the calf but he was now starting to understand that this is what she was asking him for. Cautiously, he moved over to the calf and used a stick to lift the lower wires. He could see the name "Flo" on her ear tag and he spoke to her as he worked to get the calf back into the meadow. The calf's umbilical cord was very fresh, showing that he was just born. Flo relaxed visibly as she saw what Dave was doing. Her agitation decreased and even the sound of her bellows had changed. She made no sign that she was angry as he shoved and wiggled the calf under the wires. The calf and Dave both touched the wire and got a few shocks in the process but Dave was relieved that the calf didn't cry out, as this could alarm Flo. An angry mama cow can sometimes be protective if they sense their babies are being hurt. The calf was eventually reunited with his mother and she promptly licked him and checked him over. As Dave walked away from the fence, she gave him a long look that seems to convey understanding and relief that this stranger had helped her baby. She led him off into the meadow and he was able to nurse right away. The farmers, who had been on an errand while this was happening arrived as she was leading the calf away. Dave offered to help them catch the calf so it could treat the umbilical cord with iodine and give it a checkup. They also had to tag the calf ("F20"). Dave filmed the two as they grazed with the herd. Unbelievably, the little calf saw Dave and wandered up to him curiously, seeming to recognize him from earlier in the afternoon. Flo also seemed to remember Dave and she gave him a long look before wandering off behind her baby. Dave was surprised by Flo's ability to communicate her need for help, as well as her patience with his inability to understand. She persisted until he finally got the message. What was also impressive was the depth of emotion that she showed for her calf, despite the widespread claims that animals are not capable of profound emotion. And one more thing about this encounter struck Dave as remarkable. Flo and her calf seemed to be able to remember that Dave had helped them. Dave created a video about this experience to demonstrate Flo's capacity for emotion, as well as he. Why Whale Poop Is So Expensive | So Expensive

04:17
A small percentage of sperm whales produce ambergris, a clump of squid beaks and fatty secretions that scientists believe exits through the whales’ bowels Ambergris is coveted by the fragrance industry for a chemical it contains called ambrien, which suspends smells in the air, and for its own unique scent Quality pieces of ambergris, which ambergris hunters snatch up as they wash ashore, can garner more than $7,000 a pound. Following is a transcript of the video: This is ambergris. It might look like a rock, but it’s actually a rare kind of whale poop. And it’s not cheap. Per gram, ambergris can cost more than silver—30 times more. If you’ve ever worn perfume, well, I’ve got some unsettling news. You may have misted yourself with animal waste. You see, for centuries, perfumers have been using ambergris to enhance their fragrances. Ambergris is essentially a clump of squid beaks bound by a fatty secretion. Over time, it balls up in the intestine of some sperm whales. And eventually …. Out it goes. Now, in the strictest sense it’s not poop, but scientists think it likely exits the same way. Christopher Kemp: “One way or another, a big boulder of ambergris is released into the ocean and then floats for decades, or who knows how long.” In that time, the mass transforms from a sticky, dung-like substance into a hard, gray chunk. And this is what perfumers covet. For one, it contains a unique chemical called ambrein. It’s a fixative, which means it makes other smells in perfume last longer. But ambergris is also valued for something … more surprising: it’s smell. Christopher Kemp: “It’s a bouquet of 20-30 chemical compounds that each have their own odor profile. One will smell sort of like mushrooms, one will smell a little bit like tobacco, one smells sort of like poop, one smells sort of like grass and hay.” Sounds enticing, right? Apparently. Perfume designers use strong scents like these for the base note in their fragrances. And Base notes form the foundation of any perfume. They’re typically heavier, muskier smells, like what you get from a beaver’s castor sacs or — you guessed it — ambergris. Roja Parfums, for example, has several expensive perfumes with base notes of ambergris like those in the Profumi D’Amore collection. They sell for around $500 a bottle and are described as a “passionate love letter in fragrant form.” And while ambergris has all the makings for a great perfume, what really drives up the price tag is how rare it is. Scientists don’t know exactly why, but only about one percent of sperm whales produce the substance. In fact, researchers like Shane Gero who spend years studying sperm whales never see it. Dr. Shane Gero: “I’ve been collecting sperm whale poop for 15 to 16 years, but I haven’t collected anything that looks like ambergris.” In some cases, lucky beachgoers will stumble upon it. In 2006, for example, a couple picked up a 32-pound piece on a beach in Australia. Media outlets later reported it could be worth nearly $300,000. But more often, ambergris hunters will get to it first. They track weather patterns and ocean currents to predict where it might end up. And once they find it, they sell it to brokers or perfumers for up to $7,200 a pound. Christopher Kemp: “This is like gold to them. This is a real commodity. So they take it very seriously. They can be a bit aggressive, muscular and they really guard their secrets.” But the commodity’s high price isn’t the only reason they do it. In some countries like the U.S., buying, selling, or even collecting ambergris is illegal. That’s because sperm whales are an internationally threatened species. Dr. Shane Gero: “Before whaling started there were over a million sperm whales, and now we're down closer to a fifth of that.” And while no whales are harmed in the collection of ambergris, Gero says it’s never a good idea to buy or sell products from an endangered species. But until we can replicate something that smells as good as whale poop, we probably will. ------------------------------------------------------ #Whales #Perfume #BusinessInsider Business Insider tells you all you need to know about business, finance, tech, retail, and more. Family Loses Home To Keep Their Tigers And Lions

05:53
SUBSCRIBE to Barcroft Animals: http://bit.ly/2ceCJY0 A SOUTH AFRICAN family are living in an isolated trailer - so they can provide their tigers and lions a home. The Fernandes family once owned the luxurious Jugomaro Predator Park, which was home for their pet tigers and lions for seven years. The beautiful enclosures and fields the size of football pitches meant their beloved big cats had a five-star complex and were even allowed to go inside the family house. But sadly, in November 2015, the luxurious retreat was demolished when owner Rosa and her children, Justin and Maxine, ran into financial difficulties and the liquidators gained control of their home and dumped their possessions in a waste pile - leaving their six lions, 10 tigers, three caracals and one jaguar with no home. This detrimental change of circumstance forced the distraught family to flee to a section of land in Krugersdorp, South Africa, where they are currently living in a trailer and have to wash and go to the toilet in the nearest bushes. But despite all of their loss, the trio put everything they have into their beloved pets that now live in smaller enclosures just 50 metres away from their trailer home. You can follow the family’s journey on their Facebook page, where they accept donations in order to help them rebuild their dream park: https://www.facebook.com/Jugomaro Videographer / director: Paul Hugo Producer: Danny Baggott, Ruby Coote Editor: James Thorne Barcroft TV: https://www.youtube.com/user/barcroftmedia/featured Barcroft Animals: https://www.youtube.com/barcroftanimals/featured Barcroft Cars: https://www.youtube.com/user/BarcroftCars/featured Bear Grylls Adventure: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzcUNwS7mypzPhW4gsjO7og/featured For more of the amazing side of life: For the full story, visit ANIMALS.BARCROFT.TV: http://animals.barcroft.tv/ Like @BarcroftAnimals on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BarcroftAnimals/ Follow @BarcroftAnimals on Twitter: https://twitter.com/BarcroftAnimals Check out more videos: https://www.youtube.com/barcroftanimals/videos
