AutoIonization of Water, Ion Product Constant - Kw, Calculating H3O+, OH-, and pH Using Ice Tables

24:59
This acids and bases chemistry video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the auto-ionization of water. It explains how to calculate the hydroxide ion [OH-] concentration given the hydronium ion [H3O+] concentration using the ion product constant of water - Kw. it explains how to determine if a solution is acidic, basic, or neutral based on the concentration of H3O+ at 25C. It explains how to calculate the pH of a neutral solution when the temperature increases and how to tell if the auto ionization of water is an endothermic or an exothermic process. Finally, it shows you how to calculate the pH of a very dilute basic solution of 3 x 10^-7 M NaOH. This tutorial contains plenty of examples and practice problems with the formulas and equations as well. Ionization of water | The ionic product of water

02:53
The water molecule is made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. But this molecule tends to ionize, that is, one of the hydrogen nucleus is separated from the water molecule. So, the products of this ionization are one proton, or hydrogen ion with positive charge, and a hydroxide ion with negative charge. This reaction does not occur in the majority of the water molecules and is rather an infrequent event. But it is frequent enough to always maintain pure wáter in an slightly ionized state, which gives wáter some interesting properties. For instance, electrical conductivity.

https://goo.gl/31T06Y to unlock the full series of AS & A-level Chemistry videos for the new OCR, AQA and Edexcel specification. In this video we’ll talk about the amphoteric nature of water, a property that lets water act both as a base or an acid. Then taking into account the existence of water in equilibrium and the equilibrium constant equation we’ll form the equation for the equilibrium constant of water or ionic product of water Kw and determine its value. Then we’ll look at strong bases and see in detail how to calculate their pH. In conclusion, we’ll tackle an exam style question.

Class XI - Chemistry Unit 7 - Chemical Equilibrium Ionic Product of Water Ionization Constant and Ionic Product of Water (Kw) Effect of Temperature on Kw Acidic, Basis and Neutral Solution in terms of H+ and OH- ion Concentration This video is about Ionisation constant and Ionic product of water. Effect of temperature on Ionic product of water has also been discussed. It also explains the acidic, basic and neutral solutions on the basis of relative concentrations of hydrogen and hydroxide ions. This Channel initiated by Dr. D. R. Vij (former Professor of Physics, Kurukshetra University, India) primarily aims at taking free education to the doorsteps of learners who for various economic and social factors can not avail benefits of regular coaching. In view of the congested classrooms coupled with hefty tuition fee, social taboos and hazards of travelling (for girls in particular) this mode of extending education had become a necessity. This self-learning approach is a definite step towards democratisation of education i.e. taking education even to individuals who staying in remote and far off areas were being deprived of education for no fault of theirs. Viewers are requested to click LIKE button if they like a video and SUBSCRIBE to this channel to get notifications of more video lessons being uploaded from time to time in future. Kw, The Ionic Product of Water. A Chemistry tutorial

06:48
In this tutorial we look at the ionisation of water into H(+) and OH(-). This gives rise to an equilibrium constant Ka value which when multiplied by the concentration of water gives the ionic product of water, Kw. This is a very useful value that can be used to determine the pH of alkaline solutions
